TULSA, Okla. (September 19, 2011) – With the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP season winding down, the series makes one last stop atop the 3/8-mile I-96 Speedway dirt oval in Lake Odessa, MI, this Saturday night.

Only Hartford Motor Speedway’s rescheduled King of Michigan event on September 30 remains after Saturday’s tilt at I-96 Speedway.

Saturday marks just the second stop of the season at I-96 after two other scheduled stops fell victim to rain. Current series points leader Daggett picked up one of his seven series wins on the season in the June 18 card at I-96.

With those seven triumphs, Daggett holds a 174-point lead over Brett Mann, with Ryan Ruhl, Robert Huisken and Davey Brown filling out the current top five. The rest of the top ten includes Matt Lumbert, Andy Teunessen, Jim Lingar, Ryan Grubaugh and Marques Huffer.

While I-96 Speedway has been a regular SOD stop over the years, the series has only taken to the 3/8-mile on two previous occasions with Daggett winning both times.

Saturday’s racing action fires off at 7:00 p.m.

Lake Odessa, Michigan’s I-96 Speedway is located off I-96 Exit 64, then 0.5 miles south, then 0.7 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 616-642-0555.

The 32nd year of competition for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP consists of 27 scheduled nights of action at 13 different tracks throughout Michigan, Ohio and Ontario.

The 2011 season marks the 20th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with approximately 200 nights of competition at tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.

OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 16, 2011) – Shane Stewart and Dustin Daggett won the twin features during the Night Before the Nationals program Friday at Ohsweken Speedway. Stewart survived a brush with the wall with his right rear tire on his way to victory while Daggett inherited the lead after Robbie Stillwaggon drove off the top of the track in turn two.

In the first feature Collard and Shane Stewart started on the front row after a false start moved Mitch Brown and Jessica Zemken back to row two. Stewart led at the start with Collard and Zemken falling into second and third. Collard and Zemken immediately started battling for second when the caution appeared for Ron Blair, who spun in turn two. Blair was able to restart.

After the restart Stewart pulled away while Johnson moved past Zemken and started exchanging slide jobs with his teammate Collard. The slide jobs continued until Collard made contact with the back stretch wall. While Johnson moved to second Collard had to deal with Chuck Hebing who was charging after starting near the back of the field. On lap nine Collard and Hebing made contact with Collard sliding to a halt while Hebing continued on with some top wing damage, bringing out the caution flag. Collard retired pit side.

After the restart Stewart, Zemken, and Johnson pulled away from the rest of the field. Johnson and Zemken exchanged slide jobs until lap 10 when Zemken made contact that caused Johnson’s left rear tire to go flat, bringing out another caution flag. Johnson was unable to continue. Just before the caution flag Stewart made hard contact with the front stretch wall, but was able to continue without losing the lead.

Hebing started to gain on Zemken and Stewart after the restart when the power steering failed on Hebing’s car and he spun in turn two. Blair had nowhere to go and made heavy contact with Hebing and turned over in turn two. Both drivers were okay, but retired pit side.

After the restart Stewart motored to victory over Zemken, Alain Bergeron, Keith Dempster, and Mitch Brown.

Stillwaggon led at the green flag in the second feature with Daggett racing Kyle Sauder for the second spot. Sauder slid up in front of Daggett on the backstretch and Daggett made contact with the rear bumper of Sauder before taking over second spot. After a caution for April Wilson’s spin in turn two Daggett immediately began challenging Stillwaggon for the lead. Each time Stillwaggon was able to hold back Daggett’s advances using the top of the race track.

With four laps in Stillwaggon pushed the top side a bit too far and slide off the top of turn two, bringing out the caution flag and giving the lead to Daggett. Stillwaggon restarted at the back of the field.

From there Daggett opened up a sizeable lead and Sauder found himself battling with Shawn Donath and Dain Naida for second. Naida made a daring move coming off turn two moving from fourth to second and set out after Daggett using the middle of the track. Daggett though was fast enough to keep Naida at bay winning the feature over Naida, Sauder, Michael Parent, and Donath.

Collard, Stewart, Johnson, Sauder, Stillwagon, and Daggett won heat race events. In the third heat race Chris Steele spun out and Kyle Patrick had nowhere to go, climbed a wheel, and took a fiery end over end flip down the front stretch. Patrick emerged from his car uninjured.

In the special events on Friday night Collard capitalized on Steve Poirier’s misfortune to win the Ohsweken Shootout while Johnson won the Dave MacLeod Mr. Sprint Car Challenge match race event.

TULSA, Okla. (September 6, 2011) – The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP takes to Michigan’s high-banked, ½-mile Hartford Motor Speedway on Friday night for the track’s annual “King of Michigan” event.

While current ASCS SOD points leader Dustin Daggett has been dominant in recent years at Hartford, he’ll face some added competition on Friday night as current Lucas Oil Sprint Car National points leader Shane Stewart will vie for King of Michigan honors as will California native Randy Hannagan.

Daggett, the two-time ASCS Sprints on Dirt champion hailing from Portland, MI, has topped eight of the last nine SOD events contested at Hartford Motor Speedway, including the event earlier this year in May. He has claimed Hartford’s King of Michigan crown on six previous occasions, including three of the last four years. Brett Mann took top honors in 2008.

Daggett extended his series’ best career win total to 83 with his seventh win of the year this past Friday night, pushing his points lead in the title chase to 174 points over two-champion Brett Mann. Robert Huisken holds down third, with Ryan Ruhl and Saturday night winner Davey Brown rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Sprints on Dirt points includes Jim Lingar, Matt Lumbert, Andy Teunessen, Ryan Grubaugh and Marques Huffer.

Friday’s action at Hartford Motor Speedway fires off at 8:00 p.m.

Hartford Motor Speedway is located in Hartford, MI, off I-94 Exit 46, then 1.3 miles north on Center Street, then four blocks west on Prospect Street. For more information, contact the track at 269-621-4482.

CRYSTAL, Mich. (September 3, 2011) – Davey Brown outlasted two rain delays and a late race challenge to win the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature event Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway. Brown started on the front row and led every circuit of the caution-free affair driving the Rapid Tool and Engineering sponsored car.

“Tracy Rice, Corey Chapman, and my Dad got the right setup,” said Brown in the pit area after the feature. “We’ve had a good car all year, finally came together tonight. Its great racing for Tracy because the car is near where I live and my family is involved with it.”

After waiting out two rain delays, Crystal Motor Speedway promoter Ron Flinn and the ASCS SOD crew were willing to wait out the weather and were rewarded with an excellent racing surface. Brown and Andy Teunessen started on the front row of the 25-lap race with Brown jumping out front with Teunessen in tow.

Brown opened up a sizeable lead early on before encountering lapped traffic. Brown was able to negotiate the slower cars though and continued to stretch his advantage. With five laps to go Teunessen’s car started to come in and he quickly closed the gap. Time quickly ran out on the blazing fast race track as Brown hung onto the victory over Teunessen, who scored his best career ASCS SOD feature finish with the runner up position. Gregg Dalman, Ryan Grubaugh, and Dustin Daggett rounded out the top five.

Steve Irwin, Teunessen, and Brown won heat race events. Dustin Daggett won the B-Main. Due to inclement weather officials decided to forego the Gaerte Engines Fast Car dash.

ROTHBURY, Mich. (September 2, 2011) – Dustin Daggett of Grand Ledge, MI, once again visited Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP victory lane in the second of two series appearances at Winston Speedway Friday evening.

The Renegade Race Fuels sponsored feature event before a large Labor Day weekend crowd marked Daggett’s seventh ASCS SOD score of the season and 83rd of his series career.

The fifth-starting Daggett had to fight his way to the front, challenging for position with early leaders Ryan Ruhl from the pole and Joe Bares. It was on lap four when Daggett made his strong move working by both Ruhl and Bares and checked out.

The feature was slowed on three occasions near the half way point, but after those cautions it was clear sailing for the current point leader. The winningest driver in ASCS SOD history thanked his incredible team and sponsors for helping with the hard work.

The top five in the event were D. Daggett, Gregg Dalman, Jared Hortsman, Ruhl, and Bares.

Taking heat victories were Bares, D. Daggett, and Hortsman. The Gaerte Engines Dash went to Andy Teunnesen.
