Daggett Drives to Another ASCS SOD Win at Hartford

T.J. Buffenbarger, HARTFORD, Mich. (June 11, 2010) – Dustin Daggett won Friday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at Hartford Speedway Speedway. Daggett raced up from sixth spot to take the lead from Ryan Grubaugh on lap seven and held off a mid-race challenge from Kyle Sauder to take the 15th ASCS SOD win of his career at Hartford, moving one step closer to the all time lead in feature wins with the series.

Daggett, driving the Mott Motorsports Gaerte powered Maxim Chassis, bided his time early on as Sean Robinson, Gregg Dalman, Aaron Shaffer, and Ryan Grubaugh battled for the top spot at the start of the event. Daggett used a daring move to pass Shaffer and Dalman between turns three and four to move to second on lap six, and disposed of Grubaugh one lap later to take the lead.

Sauder, second on the ASCS SOD win list at Hartford to Daggett, showed his skills were not rusty from not racing the Hartford half-mile in over six years and worked his way up to the second spot. After a spin by Dain Naida on lap nine Daggett utilized the lap car between himself and Sauder to open up a sizeable advantage. Sauder slowly chipped away at the lead, and caught a break when Daggett had to check up for a close encounter in slower traffic. Just as Sauder closed Naida cut a left rear tire that triggered Andy Teunessen into a hard flip in turn one Teunessen emerged from his car shaken, but uninjured.

As the cars pushed off for the restart Sauder’s left rear tire went flat. The Dave Jessup led crew was able to get the tire changed, but knocked Sauder out of contention. This moved Grubaugh up to second position, but he could not keep pace as Daggett motored to victory. Grubaugh, Dalman, defending ASCS SOD Champion Brett Mann, and Robinson rounded out the top five.

Daggett, Grubaugh, and Naida won heat race events. Sauder won the fast car dash.

Hannagan Snares ASCS SOD Checkers at Eldora

Bob Buffenbarger, ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 30, 2010) — Randy Hannagan won an exciting battle with Kyle Sauder on the high banks of Eldora Speedway Sunday night to cap off a three day Ohio swing for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP.

As the feature got under way Kyle Sauder took to the high side and set sail to a several car length lead at the end of the initial lap and looked to have things well in hand. Lap five saw Sauder still in the lead with Randy Hannagan, Luke Hall, Cale Conley, Jerred Horstman, Tim Allison and Kent Wolters in hot pursuit on the fast well prepared track.

By the tenth lap Hannagan was closing on the lead car of Sauder and Cale Conley moved into third. On the 13th go round the 1x of Hannagan executed a successful slide job to steal the lead from the 1k of Sauder and Conley was now in the mix with Kent Wolters and Luke Hall not far back.

With three to go in the 20 lap main, Kyle Sauder was not quite yet finished and pulled even with Hannagan more than once as the pair raced side by side until on the final circuit Hannagan gained a two car margin for the win a crowd pleasing main event.

The four heat race winners were Jeff Williams, Hud Horton, Kyle Sauder and Randy Hannagan. Butch Schroeder and Dain Naida transferred from the first B main that saw Mike Dussel make extremely hard contact with the turn four wall. Dussel emerged uninjured. B main #2 Tim Hunter and Ron Blair moving the A feature.

J.R. Stewart Snares ASCS SOD Win at Waynesfield

Bob Buffenbarger, WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (May 29, 2010) – J.R. Stewart made the most of Tim Allison’s bad luck on lap twelve of the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP main event and picked up the checkers at Waynesfield Raceway Park Saturday night with a win in the “Memorial Classic”.

At the drop of the green, pole sitter Allison was a rocket around the top of the track and quickly jumped out front with JR Stewart, Dustin Daggett, Mike Dunlap, Butch Schroeder and Ron Blair all in tow and not letting Allison out of sight. On the 6th circuit the 22D of Dennis Yokam spun in turn two with Robert Huisken unable to avoid him and both cars tumbled and brought out the red. Neither driver was injured.

By lap ten Stewart was closing on the leader Allison, but on the 12th lap coming out of turn four, a lapped car nearly spun in front of Allison and he was unable to avoid contact ending his race as the leader and now JR Stewart was in command. Allison did re-start at the tail.

On lap 16, it was Stewart, Daggett inching closer, Mike Dunlap with a strong run, Butch Schroeder, Ron Blair and Hud Horton. But on the 20th lap Dunlap and Blair tangled in turn two and brought out the final caution. When the green came back out Daggett almost pulled a slide job on Stewart but lost some momentum allowing Stewart to extend his lead. Butch Schroeder got around Daggett to take the runner up position with Daggett, Horton and Horstman rounding out the top five.

Heats for the 33 cars on hand were won by Dennis Yokam, Dain Naida, Hud Horton and Luke Hall. The B mains went to Ryan Grubaugh and Ben Rutan.
