Historic Race Announcement for Sprints on Dirt

From Mike Strevel

The Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP series is excited to announce that history will be made when the winged sprint cars will make their inaugural visit to the legendary oval Berlin Raceway.

This event not to be missed is scheduled for Tuesday evening September 24. This will be the debut of winged sprint cars on the Marne, MI temporary dirt oval. The 7/16 mile oval is running a selected amount of dirt track events for the second consecutive season in September, with the Sprints on Dirt being included in 2013.

To make this historic event that much more special, the payday for the first ever feature winner will be an incredible $5,000! The 24 car starting field will receive $300 just for making the feature, with an increased payout throughout the starting feature finish. Entries for this race are expected from all over the Midwest and Ontario. This special event will be a non-points finale to the 2013 season just three days after the 2013 champion is crowned at Tri City Speedway in Auburn, MI on Saturday September 21.

“Bringing Sprints to the Berlin dirt track has been something we wanted to do since last year, we wanted to be sure that the track would hold up before we scheduled them,” said Berlin Raceway General Manager, Mike Bursley. “We got a lot of positive feedback last year and are very excited to see the Sprints on Dirt series here.”

Series Director Mike Strevel was quoted “it is very exciting to be a part of such an incredible event. With the success that Berlin had last year with the dirt it was a natural to add the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP for the 2013 dirt schedule.” Strevel also stated “to have that large of a race purse offered should bring the best sprint car racers from all over the Midwest. It just adds to an already can’t miss race and fans shouldn’t hesitate to order their tickets in advance.”

The final event to round out the Keyser’s Port City Racing September Dirt Fest will be the much-anticipated Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP.  They will run along with the final points races for the Keyser’s Manufacturing support divisions of Modifieds and Street Stocks; Bombers will also be in action. Ticket for this historic event will be $20 for adults 18+, $12 for students 12-17, $5 for kids 8-11 and children 7 and under get in for free.

The Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt is currently in the middle of its 34th consecutive season of sanctioning 360 winged sprint car racing in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Ontario. Additional information regarding the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP is available at www.sprintsondirt.com.

Mann Wins With Final Lap Pass at Hartford

From Mike Strevel

Hartford, MI — (August 16, 2013) — In front of an enthusiastic Southern Michigan crowd, the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP feature was picked up by Brett Mann of Goshen,IN who captured his first feature win of the 2013 season at the Hartford Motor Speedway in dramatic fashion.

A field of 17 winged sprint cars signed in at the huge 1/2 mile oval. Dustin Daggett took the lead from Chris Jones on the first lap and was being challenged by Gregg Dalman the first half of the feature. Just before the half-way point of the a-main Daggett had a severe mechanical failure of his rear axle and the Mott Motorsports 2M car crashed into the turn one wall, thus ending his night. Dalman inherited the lead and looked to have the win with a tremendous lead.

However the veteran driver of the Tracy Rice owned car was not to be denied as he closed on Dalman over the last five laps and was able to make two incredible three wide passes on the last lap to close on Dalman. Making an amazing pass coming out of turn four on the last lap Mann made the pass and took the win. An incredibly excited Mann thanked his car owner, great sponsors and supportive wife and children from the Hartford winners circle. The top five finishers of the evening for the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP feature were-Mann,Dalman, Jones,Andy Teunessen and Ryan Grubaugh.

Heat race wins were captured by Mann and Daggett, the Nitro Black Dash went to Jim Lingar. Robert Huisken flipped his car during hot laps, destroying his car; he was unhurt in the nasty looking accident.

Daggett Wins at I-96

By Bob Buffenbarger

Lake Odessa, Mi- (August 3 2013) Dustin Daggett raced his way to another 25 lap feature win at I-96 Speedway Saturday night during the second appearance of the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP. Daggett started on the pole and led the distance but had to overcome several caution periods.
The first yellow appeared on the third lap when John Gall spun in turn four. On the re-start, Trey Smith hit the turn one wall hard and was done for the night. With five in, Daggett was on a mission but the 27 of Ohio’s Beau Stewart was keeping Daggett in his sights. Another Ohio native, Jared Horstman, wanted a piece of the action and blasted his way around Stewart after a lap nine restart as Gregg Dalman encountered trouble in turn four.
The ½ mile was fast with Horstman and Stewart locked in a fierce battle with Horstman sliding off the track but only losing one spot now with 15 laps in the book. Now add Ryan Grubaugh, Ryan Ruhl and Brett Mann to the fray as Daggett continued in front. However lap 21 found Mann going to the infield with mechanical problems.
With four to go Daggett maintained his lead but the racing behind him was intense between Grubaugh, Stewart, Ruhl and Horstman. Two more cautions slowed the pace momentarily but after a final restart with one to go, Daggett proved too tough to tame with Grubaugh, Stewart, Chris Jones and Ryan Ruhl following.
A beautiful evening greeted a large crowd with 23 sprint cars on hand. Heat races were won by Jared Horstman, Trey Smith and Robert Huisken. The B main went to Nate Bostrom and Ryan Ruhl took the Dash checkers.
