Daggett Takes ASCS SOD Honors at Hartford

By Mike Strevel

HARTFORD, Mich. (May 20, 2011) – On a warm Friday night at Hartford Motor Speedway, Dustin Daggett took the checkered flag for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP main event at the big half-mile speedway.

An excellent field of 21 winged sprint cars made the first of two appearances at Hartford. They will return on September 9.

Daggett of Portland, MI, started in fourth position for the 25-lap main event. There were only a handful of yellow flags including three early in the main event. An incredible battle developed mid-race when 2010 champion Ryan Grubaugh passed Daggett only to be quickly passed back by the eventual winner.

The feature winner in his Maxim chassis was able to capture the $1,200 first prize in exciting fashion after that challenge. Several battles developed throughout the field with Gregg Dalman, Aaron Shaffer, Jason Blonde and Trey Smith all swapping positions in the later stages of the feature.

Daggett stated, “I just love running at these big go-fast tracks, I’m looking forward to coming back in September.” The winning driver took his eighth win in the last nine events at Hartford Motor Speedway. The winner of the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP feature thanked his fine sponsors including Miles Petroleum, Sweet Manufacturing, Glen’s Gas & Welding, Steve Winnie Auto Sales and Richardson Farms.

The top five finishers of the feature race for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP were Daggett, Grubaugh, Dalman, Shaffer and Blonde.

Heat race wins were captured by Joe Bares, Jared Horstman and Shaffer. The fast car dash went to Dalman.

ASCS Sprints on Dirt at Hartford this Friday!

By Lonnie Wheatley
TULSA, Okla. (May 16, 2011) – After a soggy weekend in Michigan, the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP are set to return to action this Friday night at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, MI.

Friday’s card marks the first of two scheduled ASCS SOD events atop the high-banked, ½-mile Hartford Motor Speedway clay oval for 2011.

Dustin Daggett is out to the early lead in the ASCS Sprints on Dirt title chase with his season opening win on April 30 over his father Mike Daggett, with Gregg Dalman, defending series champion Ryan Grubaugh and two-time series champion Brett Mann rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten includes Jared Horstman, Tim Champlin, Ryan Ruhl, Gary Fast and Joe Bares.

Daggett has had something of a stranglehold on Hartford Speedway Park victory lane in recent times with seven wins in eight ASCS SOD events contested atop the ½-mile oval over the past four years. Only a Brett Mann triumph in the 2009 edition of the King of Michigan event has broken up Daggett’s Hartford perfection.

Friday’s action at Hartford Motor Speedway fires off at 8:00 p.m.

Hartford Motor Speedway is located in Hartford, MI, off I-94 Exit 46, then 1.3 miles north on Center Street, then four blocks west on Prospect Street. For more information, contact the track at 269-621-4482.

The 32nd year of competition for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP consists of 27 scheduled nights of action at 13 different tracks throughout Michigan, Ohio and Ontario.

The 2011 season marks the 20th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with approximately 200 nights of competition at tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.

The ASCS Sprints on Dirt return to action next Friday night, May 20, at Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, MI.

The Miles Group presents Renegade Pro Series Races

Gun Lake, MI — The first of seven exciting Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP events is scheduled for this Saturday May 14, at the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, MI. This new promotional group is excited to get their season started with the first of four trips to the West Michigan racing facility.

After promoting a few events last season at I-96, The Miles Group has decided to expand their promotional plans to cover a total of seven races at three different Michigan speedways. The schedule starts on the lightning quick I-96 half-mile oval on May 14 for the only appearance on the original I-96 oval for the Sprints on Dirt. The other three visits to I-96 will be on the much newer 3/8 mile oval that the sprints did compete on last season. The other three appearances at I-96 for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP are June 18, August 13 and the season championship race September 24. The other two tracks hosting Renegade Pro Series races are the Winston Speedway in Rothbury MI and Mt. Pleasant Speedway in Mt. Pleasant MI. The Winston Speedway dates are July 29 and September 2, while the only appearance at Mt Pleasant will be Friday July 8.

The Miles Group is a group of companies owned by Barry and Liat Marlow and originated with Miles Petroleum. Some of the more notable brands are MPI Lubricants, Miles Aviation, MPI Disaster Relief and Renegade Racing Fuels. A few of the more noticeable companies besides Miles Petroleum Inc. are Miles Propane Inc., MPI Service Center Ltd., Environmental Waste and Recovery Inc. (EWRS), Miles A Head Staffing and Miles of Stitches.

“Our goal was to get involved in the racing industry and do something that we could interact and participate with the fans, racers, promoters and track owners, stated owner/promoter Barry Marlow”. “Our love of winged sprints and dirt made it a natural to feature Sprints on Dirt at all of our races. So we put a program together where we would work directly with interested tracks by taking over their whole show for the night, but not try to vary much (other than bringing in SOD) from their normal weekly show.”

Marlow continues with “this would allow us to work directly with the owners and promoters as well as participate with all racers and fans. We believe strongly in participating in the industries that we serve. That’s what the Miles Group is attempting to do here…rather than just sell fuel to racers and tracks, we want to help the whole industry and give something back.”

The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Series presented by ARP has 23 races scheduled in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario this season. The season started on April 30 at Crystal Motor Speedway with Portland, MI driver Dustin Daggett taking his ninth straight feature victory at Ron Flinn’s 3/8 mile oval. A great field of nearly 30 sprint cars is expected to compete at I-96 Speedway to start the Renegade Pro Series schedule with racing action scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.

By Lonnie Wheatley

TULSA, Okla. (May 9, 2011) – Round two of the 2011 Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP title chase is set for Saturday night as the series takes to the ½-mile I-96 Speedway dirt oval in Lake Odessa, MI.

It will mark the series only event of the year on the I-96 ½-mile, as the remaining three Lake Odessa cards are set to be on the 3/8-mile that has been carved inside the bigger oval.

Similar to Crystal Motor Speedway, where he made it nine series wins in a row by topping the season opener on April 30, Dustin Daggett has been a dominant force in recent years at I-96 Speedway with wins in seven of the last eight events at Lake Odessa dating back to 2008.

Daggett had posted five ASCS SOD wins at I-96 until a crash last June paved the way to a Darren Long triumph. Daggett bounced back to win the ensuing two events in August and September.

Daggett is out to the early lead in the ASCS Sprints on Dirt title chase with his season opening win over his father Mike Daggett, with Gregg Dalman, defending series champion Ryan Grubaugh and two-time series champion Brett Mann rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten includes Jared Horstman, Tim Champlin, Ryan Ruhl, Gary Fast and Joe Bares. While Darren Long is the only driver other than Daggett with ASCS SOD wins at I-96 over the past three years with two triumphs, Gary Fast did post a series win at I-96 in 2007.

Saturday’s action at I-96 Speedway fires off at 7:00 p.m.

I-96 Speedway is located in Lake Odessa, MI, off I-96 Exit 64, then 0.5 miles south, then 0.7 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 616-642-0555.
