Crystal, MI. – (Saturday August 4th, 2010) – Dustin Daggett likely has never been happier to start on the pole position than he was for Saturday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature event at Crystal Motor Speedway. Daggett’s starting position helped him avoid two large opening lap crashes, one that involved 11 cars with multiple cars getting upside down, and motored to victory in the Mott Motorsports car.

Daggett and Jared Horstman started on the front row for the 25-lap feature. During the first attempt to start the feature Darren Long turned into the front stretch wall and took a while series of end over end flips in front of a majority of the field, landing on top of Keith Love’s car. Both Long and Love emerged from their cars uninjured. Joe Bares also caught shrapnel from the incident and went pit side to change a right rear tire.

The second attempt to start the feature only made it to the first corner when Mike Daggett and Aaron Shaffer got together and a pile up ensued that collected more than half of the remaining field with at least four cars getting upside down including Mike Daggett, Brett Mann, Ben Rutan, and Jim Goetgeluck. Davey Brown, Andy Teunessen, Tim Champlin, Kirk Cheney point leader Ryan Gruaugh were also involved. Cheney, Bares, Teunessen Shaffer and Grubaugh were able to restart, Grubaugh only turning one lap before going pit side.

Once the race finally restarted Daggett motored away from the rest of the field. Gregg Dalman moved past Horstman to take the second spot, but was unable to catch Daggett. Dalman, Horstman, Robert Huisken, and Mike Burkin rounded out the top five.

Rutan, Mike Daggett, Horstman, and Dustin Daggett won heat race events, Rutan won the dash, and Grubaugh won the B-Main event.

Jim Lingar and Marques Huffer flipped in separate incidents during the B-Main. Both drivers were uninjured.

Even though Grubaugh turned a lap after the big crash, Gregg Dalman cut Grubaugh’s overall point lead to 13 points. The second lap pile up also affected the outcome for the MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge title as Davey Brown was unable to make repairs in time to restart, handing that championship to Gregg Dalman.

The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature scheduled for Friday September 3rd, 2010 was rained out. The series continues on Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway in Crystal, Michigan.

TULSA, Okla. (August 30, 2010) – The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP spends Labor Day weekend working the short tracks at Winston Speedway and Crystal Motor Speedway for the series final appearance at both tracks during the 2010 season. Along with the tight battle for the points lead for the overall series championship between Ryan Grubaugh and Gregg Dalman, there are other honors at stake.

Both events at Winston and Crystal mark an end to the 2010 MAHLE/Clevite Short Track challenge series contested at selected races on tracks 3/8-mile and shorter. Davey Brown has used consistency to take the lead in the challenge by virtue of his second place finish last Saturday at Owendale Speedway. Brown holds a 19 point lead going into the final weekend over Dalman, who won last Saturday’s feature at Owendale.

Crystal’s feature will also determine the ASCS SOD representatives for the 2010 Village Pizza Ohsweken Shootout during the upcoming Arrow Express Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway. The top two finishers in the feature event will receive guaranteed starting spots in Friday’s shootout.

Dalman closed the gap for the overall ASCS SOD championship to 49 points going into the Labor Day events at Winston and Crystal. In the past two events Dalman has gained points on Grubaugh, with both drivers aiming for their first ASCS SOD point title. One driver that hopes to spoil their weekend plans is ASCS SOD all time feature winner Dustin Daggett, who is expected to return to competition this weekend.

The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP is in its 31st season of competition. Twenty-seven races are on the calendar scheduled throughout Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 19th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2010. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series, ASCS also consists of several different regions throughout the nation.

Engine Pro ASCS Sprints

OWENDALE, Mich. (August 28, 2010) – Gregg Dalman kept his championship hopes alive by winning Saturday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at Owendale Speedway. Dalman conserved his tires and made a daring outside pass of Davey Brown and pulled away during a late race restart to take the win.

“We knew the track would be hard on tires, so I just tried to sit back and conserve a bit in the beginning,” said Dalman in victory lane. “I could see Davey (Brown) smoking his tire off the corner. I have to give him a ton of credit, he raced us really clean.”

Brown and rookie of the year point leader Gavin Hunyady started on the front row for the 25-lap feature event. Brown took the lead with Dalman moving past Hunyady for second. The top three cars opened up some space until both Ryan Grubaugh and Ben Rutan moved Hunyady back to fifth.

Brown’s tactics passing slower cars enabled him to gain some breathing distance, but Dalman, Grubaugh, and Rutan were able to keep pace. On lap 17 things started to heat up as Brown’s car was visibly not coming off the corners as well and everyone behind him decided to pounce. Dalman tried to set Brown up entering the corner high and diving low coming off, but could not make the pass. Grubaugh and Rutan battled for third back and forth with Grubaugh maintaining the position.

Then with six laps to go Dalman drove to the middle of the track in turns one and two and motored down the backstretch into the laad. Even with a late race caution Dalman pulled away after the restart to victory. Brown held on for second with Grubaugh, Rutan, and Dain Naida coming from fifteenth to fifth rounding out the top five.

Brown, Grubaugh, and Dalman won heat race events while Tim Champlin won the fast car dash.

TULSA, Okla. (August 23, 2010) – The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP makes their final trip up to the “thumb” on the east side of Michigan to compete at Owendale Speedway in Owendale, Michigan. This is the second appearance of the season at Owendale for the ASCS SOD series and another leg in the 2010 MAHLE / Clevite Short Track Challenge.

Dain Naida will look to sweep both Owendale races in 2010, after winning the first event on July 10th that started a two race win streak. Naida also leads the standings in the Short Track Challenge by 31 points over Davey Brown.

In the race for the overall 2010 ASCS SOD championship Ryan Grubaugh currently holds a 64 point lead over Gregg Dalman. Both drivers are attempting to win their first series championship.
